Pauline van Lynden is a Dutch/French photographer, writer, and book designer based in the Netherlands. After a Masters degree in Political Sciences she trained as a bookbinder, and practised and taught this skill for many years before returning to art school where she focused on drawing, painting, and photography. Van Lynden's first book, Rajasthan, was published in 2003. Her second book, about an ancient system of coastal defence in the Netherlands, is due in the autumn of 2006. She is currently developing a book about the southern states of India. Numerous trips to this most colourful region of Indian states led to the creation of Pauline van Lynden's first book, Rajasthan, published in three languages in 2003, a 300-page tome of photographs and text all made, written and arranged by the author. It has since been reprinted, published in a fourth language, and sold in a luxury edition. The southern states of India (Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu) represent half a continent and an equally large assortment of cultures, but a common denominator may be found in their contrast to the north of the country. Van Lynden’s book will illustrate the abundance of colours, architecture, myths, crafts, cuisine, and traditions, which are only an example of the unique qualities of this region. As in her previous book on Rajasthan this study has at its core a collection of superb illustrations and a colourful text describing Van Lynden's personal impressions and the stories of the people she encounters on her journey. Zij was jarenlang kunstboekbinder en volgde ook een opleiding tot kunstschilder. Rajasthan is haar eerste boek.
